MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a technical standard that enables electronic musical instruments, computers, and other related devices to communicate and synchronize with each other. Developed in the early 1980s, MIDI transmits event messages such as pitch, velocity, and control signals for parameters like volume, vibrato, and panning. Unlike audio files, MIDI does not transmit actual sound but rather instructions on how music should be played, making it highly efficient for composing, editing, and sharing music data. In cybersecurity, MIDI devices can sometimes be exploited as unconventional data transfer channels, so understanding MIDI’s communication protocols is relevant for securing digital audio environments.
