The Matthew Effect in cybersecurity refers to the phenomenon where individuals, organizations, or systems that gain an early advantage - such as visibility, resources, or reputation - tend to accumulate even more benefits over time. This leads to an unequal distribution of resources or attention, as those already ahead continue to pull further ahead. In cybersecurity, this can manifest when widely recognized security tools or experts receive more funding, media coverage, or trust, making it harder for newcomers or lesser-known solutions to compete. The term originates from a biblical passage in the Gospel of Matthew, often paraphrased as 'the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.'
