A Man in the Middle (MITM) attack is a type of cyberattack where an attacker secretly intercepts and potentially alters the communication between two parties who believe they are directly communicating with each other. The attacker can eavesdrop on the conversation, steal sensitive information like login credentials or financial data, and even inject malicious content without either party’s knowledge. MITM attacks can occur over unsecured networks, such as public Wi-Fi, or by exploiting vulnerabilities in software or hardware. Common methods include session hijacking, DNS spoofing, and HTTPS stripping. Preventative measures include using encrypted connections, strong authentication, and avoiding untrusted networks.
