It unites several militant Islamist groups, including Ansar Dine, Al-Mourabitoun, and the Macina Liberation Front, and is affiliated with al-Qaeda. JNIM is primarily active in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, where it conducts attacks against local and international forces, as well as civilians. The group’s objectives include establishing Islamic law in the region and resisting Western influence. JNIM is designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries and international bodies, and its activities pose significant cybersecurity and physical security threats, particularly through propaganda and recruitment online.
