A heat set insert is a metal component designed to be embedded into plastic parts using heat. The insert is heated, typically with a soldering iron or specialized machine, and pressed into a pre-drilled hole in the plastic. As the insert heats the surrounding plastic, the plastic softens and flows around the insert’s knurled or grooved surface. Once cooled, the plastic hardens, locking the insert securely in place. This process creates a durable, threaded hole that allows screws to be repeatedly inserted and removed without damaging the plastic. Heat set inserts are widely used in electronics, 3D printing, and manufacturing to enhance the mechanical strength of plastic assemblies.
