The Federal Cyber Agency, known in Germany as the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), is the central authority responsible for cybersecurity in Germany. Established in 1991, the BSI develops security standards, advises government bodies, businesses, and citizens, and manages responses to cyber threats. Its primary mission is to protect government IT systems and critical infrastructure, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of digital information. The BSI also coordinates national cybersecurity initiatives, issues security alerts, and fosters cooperation between public and private sectors. By setting guidelines and providing expertise, the BSI plays a crucial role in strengthening Germany’s digital resilience against evolving cyber risks.
