EMI 405 refers to the 405-line electronic television standard developed by the Electric and Musical Industries (EMI) company in the UK during the 1930s. It was the world's first fully electronic television system to be used for regular broadcasting, replacing earlier mechanical systems. The 405-line system provided much sharper and more stable images compared to Baird’s mechanical standard, marking a significant advancement in television technology. Officially adopted by the BBC in 1936, the EMI 405-line system became the standard for British television broadcasts until it was gradually phased out in favor of higher-definition systems such as the 625-line PAL standard. The EMI 405-line system played a crucial role in the history of television, setting a precedent for future electronic broadcasting standards.
