A data vault, in cybersecurity and tech contexts, is an informal term for a large, proprietary collection of valuable data, typically amassed and maintained by major technology companies or organizations. These 'vaults' often contain sensitive or highly valuable information, such as user behavior data, search histories, or proprietary algorithms. Access to a data vault is usually tightly controlled, both to protect the data from external threats and to maintain a competitive advantage. The secrecy and scale of these data stores have raised concerns about privacy, data ownership, and the ethical use of personal information. Data vaults are not to be confused with the Data Vault modeling methodology used in data warehousing.
