Bot scalping is a cyberattack technique where automated software, known as bots, rapidly purchases high-demand products from online retailers as soon as they become available. These bots can bypass security measures and outpace human buyers, allowing scalpers to acquire large quantities of limited-edition items, such as event tickets, sneakers, or gaming consoles. The scalpers then resell these goods at significantly higher prices on secondary markets, exploiting scarcity and consumer demand. Bot scalping not only frustrates genuine customers but also undermines retailer reputation and disrupts fair market practices. Retailers combat bot scalping with anti-bot technologies and purchase limits.
